C.A.R.S. - COMPUTER APPLICATION RATE SYSTEMS

GEFFS Manufacturing Inc. "C.A.R.S." or Computerized Application Rate System gate control will allow the chip spreader operator to apply aggregate on the roadway more efficiently, with greater operator ease and less material waste. The operator simply enters the amount of aggregate wanted on the roadway into the keypad in pounds per square yard and the computer maintains that amount.

This application rate system was uniquely designed as a reliable mobile computerized system that overrides capabilities to include the following features:

This system has to be independent of the drive train. If a system failure were to occur, there would be no downtime.

Improved accuracy levels with the use of a radar pick-up unit over a wheel motor feedback.

A manual override system for continuous operation and dependability. You can shut-off the computer and still apply material like the conventional methods of the past.

A mechanical gate opening indicator displays the location of the gate in either auto or manual mode. This allows the operator to know at all times the location of the gates.

GEFFS Manufacturing offers our customers three different options when purchasing "C.A.R.S.":

OPTION #1.
Installing C.A.R.S. on your existing machine or added to new units with conventional hopper design.

OPTION #2.
Fixed hopper, with dual linkage individual gate control that features C.A.R.S. The dual linkage gives the operator total control of each individual gate for precise application with no waste of material. The feedroll, auger and bearing have been replaced to lessen mechanical wear and reduce maintenance cost.

OPTION #3.
Our expandable or variable width front hoppers with C.A.R.S. this option is for the customers that demand mobility. This option includes all the features of our new style fixed hopper with dual linkage control but the large capacity box within a box, or twin boxes designs, will hydraulically expand at both ends.

On all three options the system constantly monitors the machines ground speed and adjusts the front hopper gates accordingly to maintain a constant amount of aggregate being deposited on the roadway. The system will automatically adjust gates for changes in acceleration. Thus it maintains the proper amount of material and reduces waste from over and under compensation. The operator will be able to operate the machine with greater ease and more efficiency because he will not have to manually control the rate of flow from the front hopper.

The operator's controls on the C.A.R.S. system consist of a LCD digital display, keypad and open/close switch, auto/manual switch, and a gate clear button.

The LCD display shows the operator the pound per square yard to which the machine is currently set, the ground speed of the machine, and the trip and total distance accumulated.

The keypad allows the operator to calibrate the system as well as change the pound per square yard setting and reset the trip and total distance. The pound per square yard setting can be changed at any time and the flow rate and width will self-adjust instantly for the new setting.

The auto/manual switch changes the operation of the front hopper gates from computerized rate control to manual operation.

With the auto/manual switch in manual mode the open/closed switch simply opens or closes the gates.

With the auto/manual switch in auto mode the open/closed switch when depressed will open the front hopper gates and the C.A.R.S. system will control application rates.

The gate clear will cause the gates to quickly open completely and then close to the original position resuming the computerized rate control. This feature is for passing a large stone, sticks or ect., functional only in the auto mode.
